SavedbyMary has been at Path with Art since 2016. Primarily a visual artist, SavedbyMary uses ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, and glass mosaics to express herself. In her own words, she says, “I wanted to visually represent what homelessness was like for me. After a divorce, losing a job, and severe depression, hopelessness engulfed my well-being. I was afraid, ashamed, embarrassed, lost, stuck; like the scum on the bottom of a shoe. I used to fly like a bird – so freely. I worked all through high school, years in a grocery, and became a licensed pharmacy tech in 1991. I raised my kids and lived comfortably for many, many years. We went on family vacations and did all the traditional things a family living in the suburbs might do. It all seems like it was so effortless, in retrospect. If we met today, you may not realize I was once homeless and unable to have normal, daily activities. I hear these stereotypes and blind judgements all the time. For example, my neighbor has no idea that I’ve been homeless. She doesn't realize that homelessness can happen to anyone.”
